South of el border

A majestic view of the city... it just means I'm far enough away to not capture the garbage, pot holes, and beggars which they actually have more of than tacos if you can believe it.

I went to the land of the tamales to visit my honey's family. They just got there a couple of weeks ago and were so excited to have me visit (I honestly can't blame them) that the decorated with a lovely display of balloons.

As you can see, my extremely fancy car fit right in with their high class living arrangements.

May I present to you my familia.

Here is Manuel. Sorry ladies, he's only 15. I know his GQ style sports coat gives him a mature look, but he's off the market still.

My FIL Carlos.

My stepson AJ.

Best cook ever (on that stove, I mean really, masterpieces were made)
My MIL Odilia.

Ah yes, Don Juan himself. My BIL Juan. He is absolutly available, but you'll have to act fast as the teenage neighbor girls are already smitten. I woke up to find "Juan and ...?" written in the dew on my car. Now that's the way to rope 'em in. Keep up the good work girls!

My other BIL Amilcar. He said 5 words the whole time I was there. I'm either very intimidating or he thought I looked funny.

The whole family... As usual, I'm the tall white girl in the middle.

And then I got in line to come back.

Getting caught up.

Mejico pictures to come, but for some reason I found this way more interesting.

So I was back to work, minding my own business and getting caught up on all the news that happened in the great U S of A while I was away visiting exotic lands.

By that I mean I was searching all the celebrity gossip sights soaking up info on the Emmys.

Who won? Who lost? Who wore what? Did Kanye show up?

As I was looking at the best and worst dressed list I stumbled on this picture of January Jones.

My friend Ashley would be so disappointed, but I actually have no clue who January Jones is. The dress is just ok in my expert opinion. Kind of something that Captain Kirk's bride would wear...
The thing that made me swallow my gum while looking at this picture isn't Ms. Jones at all.

It's her.

Random girl in the background who obviously didn't get the memo from Britney that going commando is necessary while in public. Or maybe its the sequins that chafe.
How'd you like to be the guy that shakes her hand next?

Following up on my follow up

So my cat was scanned and I was filled with steroids and feeling very optimistic for my throat doc appointment.

The nurse led me to the exam room and left the door slightly cracked open.

I overheard my doc, as he was reviewing my cat scan, ask one of his throat colleagues.

My doc: Have you ever had to do a lingual tonsillectomy?

Other doc: Yeah, it sucks.

My doc: So...how do you do it?

Me: Maybe I need to find another doc...

Then he comes in my room.

Doc: Looks like we're going to have to remove them.

Me: hmmm...

Doc: It's not going to be fun.

Me: What am I supposed to say to that? Oh really?

Doc: Yeah, it's going to hurt a lot, and it'll hurt, and there will be a lot of pain, and in case I forgot to mention, you'll hurt quite a bit.

Me: So there's going to be some pain then?

Doc: Yes, essentially you'll have the mother of all sore throats for about 2 weeks. It'll hurt to swallow, talk, breathe...pain, pain, pain, pain.

Me: Wow, sounds like fun.

Doc: Basically you won't be able to do anything other than lay in bed for 2 weeks.

Me: So you're saying I can't work then.

Doc (practically laughing at me): No, you'll be in too much pain!

Me: Isn't there maybe a stronger antibiotic I could try.

Doc: Oh sure, we could try something stronger. I have some samples here in the office I can give you. There has been reported a side effect in a few rare cases from taking this medicine.

Me: Oh really?

Doc: There have been reports of tendons snapping as a result of this antibiotic.

Me: ARE YOU FREAKING KIDDING ME???? Tendons?

Doc: Yeah, like the Achilles tendon would just snap in half. So to avoid that, if your tendons start hurting - stop taking the medicine.

Me: Right.

Getting a second opinion...

What I look forward to.

Since I live in Las Vegas, I don’t get to experience the “Autumn” that everyone else does. Changing leaves, cooling temperatures, fun sweaters and jackets. All those little things that come together and say, “Fall is here!”

Instead I get unchanging palm trees, still 98 degree weather, and 3 school zones on my way to work. Yippie!

To compensate, I’ve decided that it’s not so bad even though I live in the desert and I’ve come to the conclusion that I’m actually looking forward to it for 2 very important reasons.

#1

Yes I realize that I actually loose a couple of brain cells by watching this, but it’s just so captivating. Give me Tyra, a couple of gay guys, and a group of talentless anorexics and I’m hooked. I just can’t help it!

#2

You can’t go wrong with this one. Either you’ll feel better about yourself because you haven’t let yourself go as much as these people have… (Seriously, the biggest girl this year is over 400 lbs – I’m totally healthy compared to that!) or you’ll be inspired to put down the ice cream and grab a stick of carefree gum you’ve conveniently kept in your zip-lock brand fresh seal bag you kept from last season. (Jennie-O ground turkey is also good for those 8:00pm munchies) Bring on the sweating, grunting, complaining, barfing and the occasional “warm fuzzy” moment, I’m ready!

Ode to a buttery kernal

I love popcorn.

I don’t love popcorn in my teeth.

I love butter.

I don’t love butter on my fingers.

I love floss.

I don’t love not having floss with me while eating popcorn.

I love that my hair can be used in extreme emergency floss situations.

*Note
Yes I even grossed myself out with this one, but a girl’s gotta do what a girl’s gotta do. I put this in the same category as using my honey’s Gillette Shampoo or blowing my nose in a paper towel.

I have no shame

I thought this was hilarious!

A couple on their matching scooters in the pharmacy drive through!

I had to laugh!

And then try to hide incognito-like and snap their picture for your viewing pleasure.

Then I drove up next to them to drop off my prescription and tried to get a closer shot.

AND THEN THE GUY LOOKED AT ME!

And gave me a pretty bad stink eye.

And kept looking at me as I pretended I hadn't just been holding my camera up pointed in his direction.

So he drove away to smoke.

And she had no clue the paparazzi was after her so I was able to snatch this.

Notice the dog between her legs.

I wonder what kind of mileage they get on those things...
